Benefits of using a Raid 1 setup:
- Simplest RAID storage subsystem design.
- 100% redundancy of data means that in the case of a future disk failure simply replace the damaged disk and rebuild.
- RAID 1 has twice the read transaction rates of a single disk (although the same write transaction rate as a single disk).
But did you know:
- Under certain circumstances, RAID 1 can sustain multiple and/or simultaneous drive failures.
- Typically the RAID function is done by system software, loading the CPU/Server and possibly degrading throughput at high activity levels.
- The design may not support the ‘hot swap’ of a failed disk when implemented by "software".
- Hardware implementation is strongly recommended.
Questions for you:
Are there any unusual noises coming from the hard drive(s)? If so, unplug the power immediately and completely remove the hard drive(s) from the server.
CBL Data Recovery will require both hard drives to perform a complete evaluation of the RAID 1 and develop a solution to gain access to your files. CBL provide the results of the evaluation and a quotation for data recovery services the same day the hard drives are received at our facilities.
